Table & Console Set
Project for Bekaliving
Movement of the stable
Salvador is a dining table and console for Bekaliving, chosen from more than fifty concepts over a two-month engagement. What set it apart was that it could be made well and shipped honestly. The form resolves as cleanly in the production drawings as it does in the render. Both pieces are now produced by Bekaliving and sold through Beymen, Turkey's largest high-end retailer.

Marathon of Forms
While I can’t share the concept explorations, more than 50 unique table forms have been explored for this project.
After back and forth with various manufacterers and financial reasoning, the forms decided for an official quoting were 3 of them.
Metal, cermic and glass usage was particularely problematic after analyzing the number of transportation defects reported. The final forms to win were the Salvador set in production now.
Ratio in Geometry
Simplicity of the form comes from the proportions on two dimensions. The legs are the movement that derive from golden ratio.
Material
Desired material was an American Oak finish with side overhangs. The softness of the form compliments the finish and the lack of corners prevent the usual wear and tear expected from such a finish.
A tiny card
The users are smokers and enjoy their morning coffee with their cigarillos, the one finger hold handle alongside the base of the form is meant for easy holding alongside a cigarillo using a single hand.
With the way ceramics dry in the mold, the bottom of the form is the heaviest part, making the form stable and bottom heavy to minimize the chance of spilling during usage.
Creating movement
The eliptic tabletop with its stable repetitive overhangs are carried by the legs which create the desire to circle around. Conversations and eyes are pleased with the stavle movement.
Strength of soft and sharp
The console consists of slits of rectengular forms, similar to a chocolate bar, and the legs with the desire to flow convey the fluidity of strength.
Black, and the grain beneath it
The stain is opaque enough to read as black from across a room and thin enough that the oak grain surfaces under raking light. It is not a paint. What you see is the wood, darkened, not the wood, covered.
